Although things are fading with time, even today this folk culture is kept alive by the Tharu caste artists of Champaran. In fact, the popular male dance of Bihar is now attracting people in a new form. Tharu artists have created a new dance party. A new form of male dance is being introduced to the audience.

Famous as far as Bihar, UP, Jharkhand and Nepal

In fact, during the festive season, programs are organized at various places in the Tharuhat area. In which many new male folk artists are once again reviving the dying folk culture through dance by dressing up as women. The dance, popular in Bihar, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and some parts of Nepal, has its own special significance. In this dance, male performers entertain the crowd by dressing in women’s clothes and dancing like them. This dance was given special importance in the courts of kings and emperors.

He is called the Shakespeare of Bhojpuri

Bhikhari Thakur, known as the Shakespeare of Bhojpuri, was a great folk artist. He wrote many plays, songs and poems in Bhojpuri. Bhikhari Thakur also raised social and political issues through his writings. He was instrumental in transforming Purusha dance from a folk dance to a commercial form. What is special is that Bhikhari Thakur presented male dance in an attractive and entertaining form in his plays.

Young people between the ages of 18 and 26 perform

Dance party administrator Santosh Kumar Bharti said that once again the demand for male dance is increasing. Each boy has to pay one to two lakh rupees a year. Apart from this all accommodation and meals are done by the coordinator. Sunil, a resident of Gaunaha, who works at the dance party, said that youth between the ages of 18 and 26 perform in it. This work continues for three to four months in a year, for which a whole year’s money is provided by the administrator.
