Even after a landslide victory in the elections held last month, the BJP continued to hold sway in Madhya Pradesh. The party won 163 out of 230 seats and the Congress had to settle for just 66 seats, 48 ​​less than last time.

The BJP has appointed former Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar as the full-time Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. Narendra Singh Tomar is one of the three former Union Ministers fielded by the BJP in this election.

Only last week, after several days of deliberations, the BJP decided on a new chief minister for the state. The BJP shocked everyone by nominating three-time MLA and former education minister Mohan Yadav to the top post in place of veteran leader Shivraj Singh Chauhan, who was the chief minister when he won the election.
