New Delhi. Pakistan team is currently playing a three test match series in Australia (Pakistan vs Australia). The second Test of the series begins on December 26 in Melbourne. The live telecast of the Boxing Day Test on Pakistan’s government-owned TV channel PTV Sports has been suspended, causing frustration as well as anger among fans of the game of cricket in Pakistan. The reason for not telecasting the Melbourne Test is strange. PTV is not telecasting this Test match due to advertisements of surrogate betting companies at the Melbourne Cricket Ground i.e. MCG.

This is probably the first time in many years that cricket lovers cannot watch live telecast of their men’s team matches on PTV Sports. PTV is also the official broadcasting partner of the Pakistan Cricket Board.

In fact, Pakistan government regulations are very strict regarding surrogate betting companies. The channel was forced to stop airing after the country’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced last week that it would not grant any concessions in the case of surrogate betting companies. According to the Electronic Media Regulatory Authority of Pakistan, if advertisements of betting or gambling companies are shown during the match, its telecast is stopped.

In view of the anger of the cricket fans due to the non-telecast of the match, PTV has issued a statement on the social site that the live telecast of the match had to be stopped.

The statement further said, ‘The issue of removing brand placement of advertisements (virtual advertisements) from on-ground surrogate companies has been raised with the parent broadcaster in Australia. The matter will be telecast live after it is resolved. PTV, as a state broadcaster, is making every effort to resolve this issue to avoid future ‘blackouts’ of such broadcasts in Pakistan territory.
