Based on Rinku Singh’s performance while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, he made his debut in T20 Internationals and played the finisher role given to him very well. Rinku Singh made his international debut in August 2023 and has been a part of the T20 international team continuously since then. Rinku has played 11 T20 Internationals so far and has scored a total of 248 runs in seven innings at a strong average of 82.67 and a killer strike rate of 183.7. During this period, Rinku has scored only one half-century, which he scored in the second T20 International of the three-match series against South Africa on 12 December. Although Rinku had a lot to say in this innings, the way he handled the role of anchor after the finisher so well, bodes well for Team India ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024.

Why did Rinku have to say sorry after the match despite playing a strong innings?

In this match, when Rinku came to bat, the score of Team India was 55 runs for three wickets. Yashaswi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill were dismissed without opening an account while Tilak Verma was dismissed for 29 runs. The top-3 batsmen returned to the pavilion in 5.5 overs. After this big responsibility fell on captain Suryakumar Yadav and Rinku Singh. Surya was dismissed with 56 runs off 36 balls while Rinku returned unbeaten on 68 runs off 39 balls till the end. Rinku and Surya took India’s score to 180 runs for seven wickets in 20 overs.

Apart from being a finisher, Rinku also got to play the role of anchor in this match, batting for around 14 overs and pacing his innings as the situation demanded. The kind of maturity Rinku has shown in his batting bodes well for Team India ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The T20 World Cup is scheduled to be played in West Indies and America in June 2024. So far, Rinku has batted strongly according to the conditions on all types of pitches and this has strengthened his claim for the T20 World Cup 2024.
