New Delhi. In the World Cup 2023, the defending champion England team proved to be a wet cat on Indian soil. The English team had to face defeats not only from India or Australia but also from teams like Afghanistan. Because of this, the hope of this team from the semi-finals has ended. The English team came to play their 8th match against the Netherlands and saved their honor in the mega event. At one point in this match, the Dutch bowlers took England’s breath away but Ben Stokes saved the team from trouble with his innings.
In this match, England won the toss and decided to bat first. Bairstow’s flop show continued, however, with David Malan criticizing the Netherlands’ bowlers. But unfortunately he was run out on 87 runs. After this there was a flurry of wickets. Joe Root, Harry Brook and captain Jos Buttler returned to the pavilion cheaply. But at one end was Ben Stokes, who proved to be the team’s troublemaker. Stokes played a brilliant innings of 108 runs off 84 balls with the help of 6 fours and six sixes. Apart from this, Chris Woakes also scored a half-century to take the team to a huge score of 339 runs.
Woakes’ magic was visible in the bowling as well
After batting, the bowlers left their mark. Together, the spinners completely destroyed the Netherlands team. Adil Rashid took 3 wickets in this match while Moeen Ali also showed the way to the pavilion for the same number of batsmen. Captain Scott Edwards and Teja Nidamanuru played a brilliant innings for the Netherlands. But the team could not win. England won by 160 runs in this match.
