Celebrating Christmas across the country
Sand artist Sudarshan Patnaik created a sand art of Santa Claus using onions on Puri’s Blue Flag beach with the message ‘Give plants a gift, keep the earth green’ on the eve of Christmas. Sudarshan Patnaik told news agency ANI that two tonnes of onions have been used in making this huge art. He said, “Every year, during Christmas, we try to make some different sculpture at Puri’s Blue Flag Beach. This time the Santa Claus art we made is 100 feet long, 20 feet high and 40 feet wide. Huge. The sand artist from Odisha also mentioned the need of the hour to plant more trees, which is why he used onions in his sculpture. He also said, “We all know the effect of climate change, so this is a message for all of us, planting more trees is the need of the hour. It took 8 hours to complete the idols. The Holy Family Catholic Church in Srinagar is beautifully decorated with colorful lights on Christmas Eve.
On the occasion of Christmas, people attended midnight mass at St. Michael’s Church in Mumbai. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attended mass at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Rosary on Christmas Eve. Midnight mass was also held at the Sacred Heart Cathedral Catholic Church in Delhi and St. Francis Xavier’s Cathedral in Bengaluru.
