‘Don’t panic, we will see you soon’, workers told their families trapped in the tunnel.

Uttarkashi: “They (labourers) told me not to panic, we will meet outside soon,” said Indrajit Kumar, who spoke to two of the 41 laborers trapped inside the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district for the past 10 days. Two members of The IPCs are trapped inside the tunnel, after talking to them they find a new ray of hope.

Indrajit’s younger brother Vishwajit and relative Subodh Kumar are trapped inside the tunnel. “Vishwajit’s three children are waiting for his return and praying for him,” Indrajit, a resident of Jharkhand’s Giridih, said on Wednesday. I called her on Diwali but could not talk. When I contacted one of his associates, he told me that Vishwajit was trapped inside the tunnel. I reached there the next day.

He said he saw Vishwajit and Subodh in the video released by the rescuers on Tuesday. “Both looked good,” he said. Today (Wednesday) I heard his voice. They told me it was just a matter of a few hours.

Almost every laborer had a single message for their family members, who have been camping near the tunnel for days. Debashish’s brother-in-law Sonu Shah is also present among the laborers trapped inside the tunnel. Devashish said he hoped the workers would come out soon. Devashish said, “Today (Wednesday) we were taken inside the tunnel and we spoke to our family members. Sonu kept telling me don’t worry now and we will meet soon.

Devashish said that after seeing Sonu’s name in the newspaper, his family came to know that he was trapped inside the tunnel. He said, “We called him on Diwali but could not be contacted. His friends told us that Sonu’s mobile phone is broken. Later we saw his name in the newspaper and learned that he was trapped inside the tunnel.

Sonu had been working in the tunnel for three years. His wife and one-year-old daughter live in Chhapra, Bihar. According to rescue team officials, the rescuers have laid about 45 meters wide pipe in the debris and about 12 meters more need to be excavated to reach the trapped workers. Officials have made elaborate arrangements to provide health facilities to workers after they are evacuated from the tunnel through pipes.
