Thiruvananthapuram:
Amid heavy rains in parts of Kerala, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for the day in three districts of the state. IMD has issued ‘Orange Alert’ for Pathanamthitta, Idukki and Malappuram districts. It has also issued a ‘yellow alert’ in Alappuzha, Ernakulam and Palakkad districts of the state. During the ‘Orange Alert’, heavy rainfall of 12 to 20 cm is expected and during the ‘Yellow Alert’, between 6 to 11 cm of heavy rainfall is expected. Besides, the IMD has predicted moderate rain and thundershowers with heavy winds at one or two places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki and Malappuram districts and light rain at one or two places in other districts of Kerala.

Earlier in the day, the department had predicted heavy rains in Kerala for the next few days keeping in view the prevailing weather conditions in the southern part of the country. The IMD forecast said that a cyclonic circulation would occur over South Tamil Nadu and neighboring areas.) which is likely to move west-northwestwards towards the south-east and adjoining east-central Arabian Sea in the next three days.
It said that due to this, under the influence of strong low easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal, widespread light to moderate rains are expected over southern Peninsular India during the next seven days. The department said that Kerala is likely to experience heavy rain at some places during November 5 to 8 and heavy rain at some places on Sunday.
