India defeated New Zealand in the World Cup match
Rohit Sharma praised Virat Kohli and Mohammad Shami
New Delhi. India completed their account of defeat against New Zealand in the ICC tournament in Dharamsala. After 20 years, Team India beat New Zealand in the ODI World Cup. India achieved the target of 274 runs in 12 balls with 6 wickets to spare in Dharamshala. This is India’s fifth consecutive victory in the World Cup. With this win, India has reached the top of the points table with 10 points. Even after opening the clutches of victory, Indian captain Rohit Sharma did not look entirely happy. He said after the match that only half the job is done and we don’t need to think too much about the future. We still have four more league matches to play.
Rohit Sharma said in the post-match presentation, “The tournament has started well but only half the job is done. We still have more matches to play. So think no further. Rohit also praised Mohammad Shami, who made his debut in this World Cup. He said Shami grabbed the opportunity with both hands. He has both class and experience and used the situation really well. At one point, New Zealand had a good partnership. It looked like the score would be 300 plus but the bowlers made a brilliant comeback in the last few overs.
If I could have scored big, it would have been better: Rohit
Rohit said about his batting, “I regret not being able to score big, but it feels good to open the innings with Shubman Gill. We both complement each other. Glad we won. Also, Rohit also praised Virat a lot. The Indian captain said that there is not much to say about Virat. He (Virat) has been winning us over the years. He has strong faith in himself. During the run chase, we were definitely under some pressure in the last few overs as many wickets fell but Jadeja and Kohli gave us victory.

‘There is room for improvement in fielding’
The Indian captain also expressed displeasure over the fielding of Team India against New Zealand. Rohit said that fielding is something we are proud of. Against New Zealand we were not able to field like in the previous matches. A few catches were missed but all the fielders who did so are good. Jadeja is a fantastic fielder. We will try to improve it in future matches.
