The resolution called for an “immediate humanitarian ceasefire”, the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages, as well as “ensuring humanitarian access”. It further demands that all parties comply with their obligations under international law, including humanitarian law, regarding the protection of civilians.

India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ruchira Kamboj said that there was a terrorist attack in Israel on October 7. He said there is a huge humanitarian crisis and loss of human life on a massive scale.

Kamboj said that India had voted in favor of the resolution adopted by the General Assembly recently. The situation this august body is considering has many dimensions. There is concern over the October 7 terrorist attack in Israel and the hostages taken at that time. There is a humanitarian crisis and massive loss of civilian life, especially women and children. The point is to comply with international humanitarian law in all circumstances.

He said, India welcomes the unity of the international community in finding a common ground to tackle the many challenges currently facing the region. Ruchira Kamboj said that our challenge in these extraordinarily difficult times is to strike the right balance. Using Article 99 of the United Nations Charter, the Secretary-General has underlined the seriousness and complexity of the challenges facing the international community. Therefore, we welcome the fact that the unity of the international community has managed to find a common ground to tackle the many challenges facing the region at this time.”
