The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team is all set to forget its defeat in the ODI World Cup final and enter the field with the intention of winning the Test series against South Africa for the first time. After giving Africa a tough fight in the white-ball series, the team will now want to do well in the Test series as well. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah are returning to the Indian team, who were on break for a few weeks. Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar believes that Kohli and Rohit will score big, while naming Shami’s replacement.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will take to the field for the first time after losing the ICC ODI World Cup final. Speaking to Star Sports ahead of the Boxing Day Test, Sunil Gavaskar said that players like Kohli and Rohit will score a lot of runs against South Africa. Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi are in doubt, according to Gavaskar, which will benefit India. Talking about bowling, Gavaskar has named Mukesh Kumar as a replacement for Mohammed Shami. Mohammad Shami has been ruled out of the two-match Test series starting on Tuesday with an ankle injury.
Gavaskar said, “I am not sure about the famous Krishna. He is returning from injury. If he needs to bowl 15-20 overs a day, I don’t know if he can do it. I hope he proves me wrong. Because if someone proves me wrong it means India is doing well and I am happy if India is doing well. Siraj and Bumrah will be the opening bowlers for me.
