A massive fire broke out in Jammu and Kashmir’s popular tourist center Dal Lake on Saturday morning, burning property worth crores of rupees. Three tourists from Bangladesh died when their houseboat caught fire. The bodies were found hours after several houseboats on the lake were gutted in a raging fire this morning, police said.
The three tourists killed in the houseboat fire are said to be Bangladeshi nationals, who were staying in the Safina houseboat. The houseboat was completely gutted by fire. Police said a fire broke out in a houseboat near ghat number 9 of Dal lake, which quickly spread and engulfed other houseboats as well.
At least five houseboats were destroyed and several others were damaged, police officials said. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
